Bangkok takes anti-violence measures ahead of protests

BANGKOK – Thailand’s government yesterday agreed to impose the Internal Security Act ahead of protests this weekend, vowing to use “all means” to stop violence by backers of ousted Premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

The security act will be imposed from March 11 to 23.

Among the security measures is the banning of farm vehicles from the capital, in an apparent move to block the movement of protesters from Mr Thaksin’s heartland in the rural north.
