BP to start effort to fully contain Gulf leak
Category Environment | Saturday, July 10th, 2010Undersea robots begin working Saturday to remove the containment cap over the gushing well in the Gulf of Mexico, the first plan that could capture all leaking oil by Monday.
Crews using remote-controlled submarines controlled by engineers a mile above the Gulf’s surface plan to swap out the cap over the weekend.
The current cap was installed June 4 to capture oil gushing from the bottom of the sea but some crude still escapes into the water. The new cap called “Top Hat Number 10″ should prove a tighter fit and catch all the oil.
