Ocracoke Island
Tracking Hurricane Earl’s path shows evacuation orders for North Carolina’s Ocracoke Island have been issued. Although Rhode Island is still many miles away, the Ocean State is preparing for high winds, heavy rain, and a possible storm surge by making sure the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier in Providence, RI is ready and waiting. Officials assure local Rhode Islanders the Hurricane Barrier gates can be lowered within in 30 minutes.
The Providence Journal reported, “Hurricane Earl is expected to pass about 100 miles east of Nantucket, potentially bringing tropical storm conditions to the south coasts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.”
