Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete Wins Miss Universe 2010

22-year-old Jimena will receive an undisclosed salary, use of a luxury apartment in New York with living expenses paid, a diamond-encrusted crown and jewelry fit for a queen, and a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy among others. She will also spend her year as Miss Universe touring the world to call attention to the issues of HIV/AIDS and breast cancer.
In the top 5, she faced a stiff competitions from 24-year-old Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, 19-year-old Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, 23-year-old Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska and 22-year-old Miss Philippines Venus Raj who finished second to fifth in respective order. Should she be unable to perform her duties, first runner-up Miss Jamaica will assume her duties.
Miss Universe 2010 pageant was held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip on Monday night, August 23. A total of 84 contestants at the big event, which is co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC, were judged by Criss Angel, the gold medalist Evan Lysacek, Chynna Phillips and actress Jane Seymour.
Campbell won the Miss Congeniality Universe award. Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won Miss Photogenic Universe and a second award for having the best national costume.
