DURBAN, South Africa — Japan’s defense held the Netherlands to a 0-0 tie at halftime of their World Cup match as the frustrated Dutch could produce few scoring chances.
Dirk Kuyt threatened early but saw his bicycle kick blocked by Japanese defender Yuji Nakazawa.

Both teams fielded unchanged starting lineups after opening wins.
