Passenger misery as London tube workers strike
Category Europe, World | Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
British transport workers are again in a strike mode. Aside from British Airway’s forthcoming industrial action by its cabin crew, London’s underground workers were on a 24-hour job walk off beginning Sunday night.
Strikers belong to the Rail Maritime and Transport Union and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association protest plans by the City of London, which operates the tube, to lay off 800 workers.
Members of the TSSA walked out of their posts by 5 p.m. on Monday and another set of employees made up of drivers, signalers and station staff are scheduled to leave their jobs at 9 p.m.
