Second-seeded Swede Robin Soderling prevailed in his native country, downing Argentine Juan Monaco on Sunday to win the Swedish Open.
Soderling notched his first title of the 2009 season with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision over Monaco, who had unseated defending champion Tommy Robredo in the semifinals. Soderling has beaten Monaco four straight times.
The runner-up at last month’s French Open, Soderling also became the first Swede to win this event since his coach, Magnus Norman, took the title in 2000.
The title is the fourth of Soderling’s career, and earned him $106,500.
