Polls closed across Australia as officials began counting ballots in the tightest national election in more than 40 years. Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s Labor Party won 60 seats and Tony Abbott’s Liberal-National coalition had 49 with 34 percent of the total vote counted as of 8:15 p.m. Sydney time, according to the Australian Electoral Commission.
