It’s official. Once the first heat of the day hit the water at 8:00 AM Saturday morning, the 2010 US Open of Surfing had officially begun. By 10:00 AM the venue was in full swing, spectators bouncing back and forth between the Hurley and Nike 6.0/Converse Brand Experience and the Surf Stadium.
The Junior Men will run through Rounds two and three before the Junior Women complete the opening four heats this afternoon. Tanner Hendrickson paced the field this morning, posting the highest single-wave score (8.87) and heat total (15.54) of the morning. Not to be upstaged, Brazilian Miguel Pupo recorded the top two single-wave scores of the morning — an 8.87 and an 8.67 — as well as the second highest heat total (15.40).
