Michael Jackson’s memorial service will feature performances by stars including Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie – and Shaheen Jafargholi, a 12-year-old from Swansea.
Jafargholi shot to fame after performing the Jackson 5 hit Who’s Lovin’ You on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent and the Jackson family has chosen him to pay tribute to the late singer.
The Jacksons announced that more than a dozen people would take part in the 90-minute tribute at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Other music stars taking part are Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Usher and John Mayer.
Brooke Shields, the actress, and Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant, the basketball players, will also be involved.
Reverend Al Sharpton, who has been prominent in the media, speaking on behalf of the Jackson family, will also take part along with Berry Gordy, the Motown founder.
Martin Luther King III and Bernice King, the children of Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr, the assassinated civil rights leader, will also have a role.
Other participants include family friends Ron Boyd and Pastor Lucious Smith, and the Andrae Crouch Choir.
The Jackson family said the list was “preliminary and subject to change”.
It is also believed that several other big-name stars could be fitted in at the last moment.
The event will be broadcast live to millions of people across the world on television and the internet.
